Desktop Recommendations

Main Content

The following are minimum recommendations for configuring your desktop client. Please note that as Oracle applications, desktop operating systems and browsers change their specifications and requirements, these recommendations may also change. Please return to this page in advance of purchasing any desktop computer to be used with the Administrative Information Systems.

In this release of Oracle Applications, Oracle supports the following desktop client platforms:

  • Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Windows 8 (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 10
  • Macintosh OS X v10.7.5
  • Macintosh OS X v10.8.2
  • Macintosh OS X v10.9.1
  • Macintosh OS X v10.10.2

Processor

Oracle Applications Release 12 performance is sensitive to the CPU speed. Oracle recommends using a client with at least 350 MHz processors. You will experience significant performance improvement with faster (1.4+ GHz) processors. Note that the minimum requirements will provide minimal performance. Your requirements may be higher than the minimum specification.

Memory

When determining the optimum CPU speed and amount of memory, consider the minimum requirements for the operating system. Oracle recommends at least 256 MB of RAM for Microsoft Windows clients. If you are running Oracle Applications concurrently with other desktop applications, you will experience better performance with additional memory. Oracle also recommends at least 256 MB of RAM for Mac OS X 10.4 clients, and 512 MB for 10.5 clients.

When considering the CPU speed and amount of memory, consider the minimum requirements for your operating system, other software that runs concurrently, and external factors such as the network characteristics. Check that the configuration is sufficient to achieve the throughput necessary to sustain your business model. Your requirements may be higher than the minimum specification.
