Setting up Windows 7 VPN

NOTE: This method is discouraged as connections created with the built-in Windows 7, VPN are not secure

1. Open Control Panel > Network and Internet

2. Choose Network and Sharing Center

3. Click on “Setup a new connection or network” 

Step 3

4. Choose “Connect to a workplace” and press “Next”

Step 4

5. Click on the option to “Use my Internet connection (VPN)”

Step 5

6. Enter the following configuration into the given fields

7. Type your network ID for the username (This step is only necessary to activate the “Connect” option; the connection still requires further configuration)

8. Press the “Skip” button (The connection will fail as there is more configuration needed)

9. Choose “Set up the connection anyway”

10. Go back to the Control Panel and click on Network and Internet > Internet Options

 Step 10

11. Click on the “Connections” tab and press settings for the SIU VPN connection

12. Check the box to use a proxy server for this connection and click on “Advanced”

13. Use the following configuration and press OK

14. Go to Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings

15.Drag the SIU VPN icon to the desktop for a shortcut to connect with

If everything went well you will see this verification load and disappear. Enjoy browsing the internet.

16. Double click on the SIU VPN icon and enter your SIU Network ID and password
