Software Licensing

Southern Illinois University at Carbondale maintains a variety of software titles to be used for academic instruction and research purposes. This software is generally available for distribution to full time faculty staff. Student options are available for most software.


ArcGIS is a geographic information system (GIS) for working with maps and geographic information.

EndNote is a bibliography, citation, and reference management tool for Windows and Macintosh computers. This software is available for Graduate students only.

JMP is a suite of computer programs for statistical analysis

Mathematica is a symbolic mathematical computation program used in many scientific, engineering, mathematical, and computing fields.
*All enrolled students and active faculty/staff receive individual licenses, requested through the Wolfram Portal.

Students have access to Office 365 which is a web-based version of Microsoft Office. Students may also download up to five free copies of Microsoft Office. This software does not need to be requested. 

SPSS is a statistical software which can conduct complex data analysis. 

TurnItIn is an online service to catch and prevent plagiarism. This software is available to everyone through Desire2Learn (D2L).
