Use TrueCrypt when you need to encrypt an entire operating system hard disk, such as when you are travelling with a laptop: If the laptop is stolen while it is turned off, the thief will not be reasonably able to access the data on the laptop.Disadvantages of using TrueCrypt are that it requires the expertise of a system administrator, and malware on an infected computer can still access the encrypted data when the computer is in use.
