About the Human Resources Self-Service System (HRSS)
Human Resources Self-Service (HRSS) is an element of SIU's Administrative Information Systems which allow SIU employees to view their employment information online. Employee payslips and annual W-2 forms are available in pdf format for viewing, printing or downloading. Additional information can be accessed through this platform.

What is my HRSS username?
Carbondale: SIUC employees will enter their Network ID (SIU85xxxxxxx)
School of Medicine: SIUSOM Springfield employees will enter their entire ______@siumed.edu email address
Edwardsville: Edwardsville Employees do not have access to HRSS.
How do I get access to HRSS?
Employees are automatically granted access to HRSS. Simply, login with your Network ID (SIU employees) or your university email address (SIUSOM employees) as the username.
Employees logging in for the first time will be prompted to create their own password.
IMPORTANT: SIUC employees MUST claim their Network ID (SIU85xxxxxxx) and create an @siu.edu email address before logging into HRSS. To do this, go to the NetID website and follow the on-screen instructions.

How do I reset my password?
- On the HRSS website, click the Login Assistance (directly below the Log In button) to reset your password or create one for the first time.
- Enter your User Name and click the Forgot Password button.
- User Name for SIUC employees is your Network ID (SIU85xxxxxxx)
- User Name for SIUSOM employees is your full university email address; UNLESS you are classified as SMC extra help, a graduate assistant or a student.
- When the Confirmation screen appears, click OK. This returns you to the Login screen; after a few minutes, check your email for one from SIU AIS Notification with a Subject Line: FYI: Password Reset.
- Click the link included within that email.
- Enter a new password.
Can I access HRSS as a retiree or former employee?
Retirees
Yes. SIUC employees that retired after September 30, 2012 will retain their access to HRSS.
Former Employees
Former employees can access HRSS for 15 months after leaving their employment with SIU. However, depending on employment type, your SIU email account may no longer be accessible. If you need to reset your HRSS password and cannot access your email, please call SalukiTech and request for your password to be manually reset.
What are the HRSS password requirements/standards?
Requirements:
- Password must be changed every 365 days
- Password cannot be reused
- Must be between 16 and 30 characters in length
- May include upper case and lower case letters
- May contain one or more of these special characters: ? . ] [ } { - ! * + _ ~
- May be in the form of a passphrase, e.g. "Fido+1makesthree!"
Avoid the Following:
- DO NOT use passwords derived from your user name
- DO NOT use names of family, close friends or pets
How do I view my payslips?
To access your Payslip, click the Payslip link from the main menu on the HRSS homepage.
The Employee Online Services web page opens with the most recent Payslip displayed by default in a PDF file.
To access an earlier processed Payslip, use the field called: Choose a Payslip.
- Click the down arrow to the right of the Choose a Payslip field.
- Click on the desired Pay Period.
- Click the Go button to the right of the Choose a Payslip field to complete the process.
- The selected Payslip opens for viewing.
How do I view my W-2s?
To access your W-2s, click the Employee W - 2 link from the main menu on the HRSS homepage. The most recent year's W-2 is displayed by default online in a PDF file.
To access W-2s from a previous year:
- Click the down arrow to the right of the Select Organization/Year field.
- Use the list that appears to locate and select the appropriate year for the W-2 needed.
- Click the Go button beside your selection to display the W-2 on your screen.
The W - 2 PDF file contains two pages: Page 1 contains all the copies of the W-2 form you receive in mailed documents.
Page 2 contains a Notice to Employee section and Instructions for Employee section.
Use the scrollbar or Page Navigation buttons to view all the forms in the file.
To save or print your W-2s, follow the steps in the next section of this page.
IMPORTANT: Due to the possibility of third - party interception of your personal information, emailing Payslips or Employee W-2s is not recommended
How do I print my payslip/W-2s?
Note: You CANNOT use your Internet Browser Printer options to print your Payslips. A blank document will print.
To print your payslip...
- Click the Printer icon on the PDF Toolbar.
- If the PDF Toolbar does not automatically appear above the Payslip, press the F8 function key on your keyboard to activate it. Or, mouse over the bottom of the screen until a grey PDF options box appears.
- Click the Printer icon in the PDF options box.
- A Printer dialog window displays based on your default printer settings. Make any necessary changes.
- Click OK to print.
How do I save my payslip/W-2s?
- Click the Save icon on the PDF Toolbar.
- In the Save field, select where you would like the PDF to be saved to on your device.
- In the File Name field, press the backspace key on your keyboard to erase the field contents.
- Name your document.
- In the Save as type field, the default is Adobe PDF files (*.pdf). Keep this selection.
- To complete the process, click Save.
How do I change my disability/veterans status?
Veterans Status
- Cick the Disclose Veteran Status link on the HRSS homepage menu.
- Choose whether to disclose your Veteran Status.
- If you are a veteran you can opt to choose your Veteran classification and provide your discharge date if applicable.
- Click Submit to complete the form.

After the form has been submitted, you should receive a confirmation message.

Click the OK button to close the Disclose Veteran Status window.
Disability Status
- Click the Disability Status link on the HRSS homepage menu.
- Choose whether to disclose your Disability Status.
- Click Submit to complete the form.
- After the form has been submitted, you should receive a confirmation message.
- Click the OK button to close the Disclose Disability Status window.
